For this assignment, I had to answer a several questions relating to the characters in my Novel Project. I have hyperlinked most every reference to music scores, books, and TV shows. Please, enjoy feel free to send me your own questions on the characters!
What song would be the film score for your story?
Oh, what to answer? Definitely something on the more emotional, bitter-sweet side. I shall pick and choose from various sources. As Tchaikovsky is just about my favorite classical composer, I must point to his “October” from The Seasons. For pensive, reminiscent moments “The Living Sculptures of Pemberley” from Pride and Prejudice (2005) would do nicely. Another score that seems to fit the bill is Erik Satie’s Gymnopédies.
What books would be your characters’ favorites?
Elaine’s favorite book from childhood is The Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald. An avid bookworm, she enjoys other authors such as O. Henry, Louisa May Alcott, Eleanor H. Porter, and L. M. Montgomery.
On the other hand, enigmatic Ian appreciates heavier material such as The Karamazov Brothers and Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky
Detective Farrell might read The Jungle by Upton Sinclair; however, fiction, in general, is not his cup of tea. He would rather peruse a series of journals on criminal history—not that I would go so far as to say he enjoys it, but still.
Boswell mostly sticks to the newspaper. Nevertheless, against his will, he once became fully immersed in a radio dramatization of Pygmalion.
Truth be told, Vera usually skims the saucy stories of magazines. Yet, as Boswell tunes into Pygmalion on the kitchen radio ever so often, she finds herself identifying, if only a bit, with the drama.
What TV show(s) would they watch?
Ignoring all time periods, Elaine has a soft spot for The Road to Avonlea, Little House on the Prairie, and The Waltons.
Ian, I feel, would hardly approach the screen if it weren’t for BBC’s Sherlock Holmes or a touch of The Andy Griffith Show.
Much to my chagrin, Detective Farrell also enjoys a bit of Sherlock Holmes seasoned with various other grim crime shows.
Boswell cracks up despite himself while watching I Love Lucy.
Vera opens Netflix and clicks on Alias Grace.
Which famous Hollywood actors would portray your characters best in a movie?
I have aimed high, my beloved readers. Why shouldn’t some of the best-known Old Hollywood actors portray such wonderful characters as mine?
For Elaine, I have chosen Audrey Hepburn, simply because I absolutely adore her, and she possesses a certain wondrous look about her. Truth be told though, the similarity lies in the face only and in not the hair or eye color.

For Ian, I have chosen the perfect tall, dark, and brooding man—Gregory Peck. Have you ever wondered, beloved reader, how Ian looks when he very rarely smiles? I thought I’d throw the middle picture in to satisfy your curiosity. *wink*

Alas, have you found me out? I must confess, Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck rather had to go hand in hand as Elaine and Ian because they’re pretty much my favorite classic movie couple from A Roman Holiday. Scratch that. Pretty much one of my favorite couples ever! *sheepish grin*

Continuing on, Detective Farrell would be played by the typical, uncanny investigator Wendell Corey.
Classic Spencer Tracy would take on the proper, elderly Boswell. Can’t you see him as a butler?
And finally, Vera Sloan has a very particular casting. Unlike most of my other characters, I already had an image of this bitter cook with her platinum blonde bob and steely eyes. Thank goodness 1930s Carole Lombard fits the role to a tee!

Hopefully, dear reader, you have gained a fuller understanding of the characters in For the Love of Elaine. Did I answer these questions according to your thriving imagination—or did any fall short?
